ITFA ARC Educational Workshop, Cape Town

ITFA’s Africa Regional Committee (ARC) is holding an educational workshop in Cape Town on March 6th 2024 to coincide with GTR Africa 2024, where several ITFA and ARC members will be appearing. This workshop is aimed at African financial professionals involved in trade and trade finance and is designed to be interactive, with opportunities to ask questions and share insights and experience. Here are the programme details: 

Title: ‘Using innovative financing solutions to address Africa’s trade finance gap’

Agenda:

 12:00     Participants arrive for sandwich lunch, refreshments & networking

12:30     Opening, words of welcome & housekeeping


12:35     Session 1: Trade finance in African markets, including George Wilson (ARC Chair), Duarte Pedreira (ITFA Board & ARC member) and Anne-Marie Woolley (ARC member).  This session will explore the key challenges facing financiers and underwriters of African trade, including:

–     Why is Africa’s trade finance gap so persistent and do we need radical measures to address it?
–       How can tradetech help close the gap?
–       What gaps in skills, infrastructure and processes must we address to make African banks more bankable?
–       What do we mean by the ‘just trade transition’?  


13:15     Session 2: Innovative financing solutions for African trade. This session will include a primer on modern forfaiting, including the URF800 and URTEPO, delivered by Lorna Pillow (ITFA Deputy Chair), followed by an update on the digitalisation of trade finance documentation and KYC processes, including MLETR and interoperability, delivered by Sean Edwards (ITFA Chairman).
