The ITFA Emerging Leaders Committee (ELC) was established in 2017 with the core objective of promoting the trade finance Industry to its Emerging Leaders, both those already part of the industry, and those aspiring to join it. The ELC mission is to make trade finance attractive and accessible as a career choice to existing and aspiring Emerging Leaders. Since its creation, the ELC became a reference in the industry through the deployment of landmark programmes, such as the ITFA Emerging Trade Financier Award, the ITFA Martin Ashurst Trade Finance Mentoring Programme, the ITFA Bayes Business School Trade Finance Module, and a series of regular seminars and webinars that benefited Emerging Leaders from Sydney to New York. With a view of operating within a solid governance framework, the ELC adopted a set of statutes in April 2022, which determine that from April 2024 the ELC membership would be comprised of elected representatives. As such, we are now starting the process to elect the new cohort of ELC members, and this email is a call for candidates. There will be up to 12 ELC member seats available to those receiving the greatest number of votes. I am interested in becoming an ELC member. What do I need to do now? We are opening applications for candidacies until Monday 11th March close of business (London time). Interested candidates should submit a one paragraph statement about themselves, outlining why they should be elected, including their number of years of “relevant trade finance experience”. These statements should be emailed to the ITFA Secretariat on sec@itfa.org. Who is eligible to submit a candidacy? In accordance with the statutes of the ITFA ELC, eligible candidates will have to be classified as Emerging Leaders. An Emerging Leader is defined as someone with up to 10 years of relevant Trade Finance experience, with exceptions sanctioned by the Emerging Leaders Committee by a simple majority of votes in a special meeting. This means that candidates with more than 10 years relevant trade finance experience will be considered based on their merit and potential future contribution. Candidates must, however, either be employed by an ITFA member or be students. What happens after I submit my statement? In the first instance, the ELC will meet to consider sanctioning any necessary exceptions to the “up to 10 years’ experience requirement”. Once the final list of candidates is concluded, we will then share it with the Emerging Leaders registered with ITFA, as they will be the ones eligible to vote in the election process. We will then set up an online voting page, listing all the accepted candidates. Our goal is to have this voting platform accessible to all registered ITFA Emerging Leaders between Monday 8th April and Friday 12th April. Voters will be asked to choose 12 names from the list of candidates (or less, if we don’t receive 12 candidacies). Once all votes are counted, we will then identify the [12] candidates with the most votes and announce the results on Wednesday 17th April. We sincerely hope that this election process reflects the enthusiasm and commitment of all of those who contributed to the ELC since its creation, to whom ITFA hereby expresses its unreserved gratitude. Kindly contact the ITFA Secretariat (sec@itfa.org) for any questions or queries you may have. |
