Announcing the ITFA conference speakers in Budapest – Basel 4 Capital Treatment Clinic

The ITFA Board is pleased to announce another panel session which will be hosted at our Annual Conference in Budapest. Entitled “Basel 4 Capital Treatment Clinic”. This session will look into the practical implications of the latest set of Basel capital regulations that will come into effect in 2022.

The panel includes a representative from a large bank using advanced capital modelling methodology, a smaller bank using the standardised approach, and an insurer providing credit risk mitigation to banks. Once the effects of the new regulations have been brought to life, our panelists will touch on some of the innovative solutions that are being developed to help our members better manage their capital in the future.

The moderator, Paul Coles, HSBC and Chair of ITFA Market Practice Committee has invited the following panellists to share their thoughts: Theo Korver of ING, Marilyn Blattner-Hoyle of AIG, Esti Friedman of Capital Relief Solutions and Zeyno Davutoglu of Credit Europe Bank N.V and ITFA Head of Education.

Theo Korver joined the ING Wholesale Banking Balance Management team in March 2017, being responsible for Balance Sheet Distribution. The Balance Sheet Management team is a board led initiative, allowing ING to build an infrastructure to share its proven loan origination platform. The mandate is bank wide focusing on both Retail and Wholesale Bank assets.

Prior to joining the Balance Sheet Management team, Theo worked for 7 years within ING Financial Markets. First starting as the Manager Business Development of FM Sales, followed by 3.5 years a Global Head of FM Client Solutions Group. Prior to joining ING in 2010, Theo worked 14 years for ABN AMRO in Transaction Services and Financial Markets departments holding different management roles in Sales, Management Consulting, Structuring in Amsterdam, London and Singapore. Theo holds a Msc Business Economics from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and is Certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM) with the Global Association of Risk Professionals.

Marilyn Blattner-Hoyle is the Global Head of Trade Finance for AIG and in that role also leads the development of new products including Basel/capital risk mitigation solutions and trade finance-related technology applications. Marilyn joined AIG in 2015 to focus on implementing AIG’s funded and unfunded supply chain finance products and trade finance receivables and securitisation transactions.

Marilyn previously worked as a lawyer in the international banking and finance practice for global law firm Hogan Lovells in London and New York where she serviced numerous bank clients as well as corporates. Marilyn was also seconded in-house to Citibank’s trade transaction services EMEA team including commodity trade finance, supply chain finance and risk optimization divisions. Prior to that, Marilyn was a senior associate in strategic and tactical consulting. Marilyn is on the Insurance Committee of ITFA and the Advisory Board of Tradeteq Limited.

Esti Friedman has 30 years of experience in working with global and local banks as well as in Israeli. She also has experience in working for a leading insurance company. In fact, Esti initiated and built the first non-bank credit body. She was previously CEO of Clal Financing Division and Clal Credit Insurance. She also held the position of Chairman of Clal Credit Insurance. Prior to that, Mrs. Friedman was also Vice President of Citibank Israel and Business Branch Manager at FIBI Bank.

Esti has an MBA from Hebrew University and a BA in Economics, also from  Hebrew University.

Zeyno Davutoglu, a gradute of Gazi University Ankara, Political Sciences Dept and MA degree from Marmara University Istanbul European Union Studies, started her banking career at Koc-Amerikan Bank (a Joint venture of American Express Bank with Koc Group of Turkey) in 1991 where she worked at the Financial Institutions Department until 1998.

In March 1998 she was appointed to Koratrade Dublin as Marketing Manager. She returned to the Head Office in 2001 as the Group Manager responsible of Marketing of Foreign Subsidiaries of Kocbank A.S.  and in 2002 joined Kocbank Netherland N.V.

Mrs. Davutoglu joined Credit Europe Bank NV in 2005 and a year later was appointed to Malta to open a branch. Since September 2008 she has been working at the Head Office as the E.V.P. Bank Relations. Zeyno is also the ITFA Board Member responsible for Education.

Paul Coles is responsible for overseeing the transactional distribution activity that supports HSBC’s GTRF business. His global role focuses on creating greater consistency in the processes, documentation and investor management, along with working with the regional teams on key multi-jurisdiction transactions. Prior to joining HSBC, Paul was the global coordinator and EMEA head for trade risk distribution at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Paul has also worked in the trade credit distribution team at ABN AMRO, and subsequently at RBS as the trade asset management regional head for the NV business (part of the legacy ABN AMRO network). He started his career 20 years ago at London Forfaiting Company where he held a variety of trade finance roles.

Paul has a BSc in Management Studies from Royal Holloway, University of London and is a member of the Board of the ITFA, where he currently chairs the Market Practice Committee.
