Since its inception in 2016, the ITFA Martin Ashurst Trade Finance Mentoring Programme has been dedicated to fostering the next generation of trade finance professionals. Our goal is to provide aspiring trade financiers with the insights, guidance, and connections needed to develop a successful career in the industry.

WHATS NEW IN 2025?
We are excited to introduce key enhancements to the programme this year to improve engagement and impact:

• Clearly defined target audience for better mentor-mentee matches.
• Mentees to articulate expectations at the outset for improved alignment.
• Structured roadmap with set calls/meetings for clearer direction.
• Shorter programme duration (4 months) to maintain momentum.
• ITFA Emerging Leaders Committee (ELC) member as a point of contact with scheduled check-ins.
• Location preferences considered for in-person interactions.
• Exclusive selection process for committed and well-matched candidates.
• Greater integration with ITFA’s Emerging Leaders initiatives.
• Optional group mentorship sessions for shared experiences and increased accountability.

HOW IT WORKS
Our experienced mentors, drawn from ITFA’s global membership, will provide tailored guidance to mentees, helping them:

• Gain a clear understanding of trade finance as an exciting and rewarding career path.
• Identify various career opportunities within the industry, from sales and risk management to legal and operations roles.
• Learn effective job search strategies and networking techniques.

WHO CAN APPLY?
The programme is open to:

• Students and recent graduates seeking their first role in trade finance.
• Early-career professionals working for ITFA member institutions.
• Professionals from non-trade finance backgrounds looking to transition into the industry.

BENEFITS FOR MENTEES

• Free access to ITFA Emerging Leaders presentations and networking events.
• Opportunities to participate in exclusive ITFA initiatives, including the Emerging Trade Financier Award.
• Tailored mentorship from experienced professionals in trade finance.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

• Mentees will engage in a structured programme lasting between 3-6 months.
• A minimum of two one-hour discussions with their assigned mentor.
• Additional meetings or calls as required, following a structured roadmap.
• Access to specialist mentors for deeper insights into specific areas of trade finance.
• Regular check-ins facilitated by ITFA ELC members to ensure continued engagement and support.
