DNI Initiative – inaugural User Meeting

We are delighted to invite you to the first User Meeting of the DNI Initiative. This session has been prepared for and is open to current and prospective members of the DNI Initiative. The DNI Initiative has established the most advanced community of technology firms, financial institutions and corporates committed to digitise negotiable instruments as per UNCITRAL MLETR-compatible laws.

During ITFA’s conference in Bristol, Sarah Green, Law Commissioner for England and Wales, outlined the details of a new draft bill to remove the legal block to the digitisation of trade documentation.

The draft bill sets out criteria to make certain types of electronic documents possessable, and therefore capable of having the same legal function as their paper counterparts. It follows a consultation launched in May 2021 by the Law Commission, which is now in the process of analysing the responses it has received from the market. Once it has completed this analysis, which takes an average of three months, the Commission will put together a draft report, which it will submit to the government together with the draft bill.

How are banks preparing for this change? What are corporates expecting on this front? What is the best way for banks to prepare in view of legal changes? How are countries progressing on MLETR adoption? Which other documents benefit from digitization? What is the opportunity for UK exports?

Those are the key questions we will debate during this session. Members (current and prospective) of the DNI Initiative are invited to join – and contribute to – the debate that will take place on Tuesday 9 November at 14:00 UK Time / 15:00 CET. Please confirm your participation to lanika@itfa.org.
