CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE – Sean Edwards, ITFA Chairman / Head of Legal and Special Adviser to The Global Trade Finance Department At SMBC, May 2022

Dear members and friends

Hope you are well.  Just flew back home from Amsterdam where I have attended our annual Spring Cocktail organised by our Northern European Regional Committee (NERC), in collaboration with Credit Europe Bank NV.  The well-attended event started off with a packed seminar (indulgence must always be preceded by virtue), beginning with two presentations, the first a global economic update followed by a round up on sanctions. In sober mood, we then moved to two panel discussions, the first one discussing trade, turning into an investable asset class.  The seminar came to a close with another interesting panel dealing with new perspective of trade.  Stay tuned as more to follow on this subject.  A networking session closed this successful event. Photos of the event will soon be posted under the members’ area within our website. Our Emerging Leaders were also busy in Amsterdam earlier on the same day with their own dedicated event, also focused on the emergence of trade finance as an asset class and trade finance funds. Thank you EL’s for being… well, youthful.

Next stop…Tallinn, where I’ll be representing ITFA at the inaugural Tallinn Supply Chain Finance Summit 2022, which will take place between 31May and 1 June.  The programme is targeted at bank and non-bank financial institutions, fintechs and corporations, who would like to discuss the role of technology in Supply Chain Finance (SCF), with a special focus on implementing SCF in challenging sectors such as retail. Representatives of EBRD and the Estonian Government will be speaking. A kind reminder that participation (free of charge) can be in person as well as virtual » Tallinn SCF Summit Conference Programme (itfa.org).

As promised during the last couple of newsletters, we have been increasingly active organising a good number of in-person events.  I invite you to visit our events page for more information of events to come » ITFA Events 2022. Lastly, but I will remind you again, I would like to mention the annual conference being held in Porto between the 7th and the 9th September, commencing on the Wednesday morning with a fintech session. Registrations are well underway and we are swiftly approaching the 100 mark. An extremely encouraging number which leaves me to remind you about the early bird prices which expire on the 15th June 2022. Hence I urge you to register asap Registration Fees – ITFA Conference 2022 to ensure you take advantage of the preferential rates as well as booking a room within the main hotel.
